When God told you you were going to get a son, did He whisper? Or was it a roaring thunder?
Was it a little voice in your head, that gave you a hunch to what He meant?
Or was it a bright and shining light in which you kind of trembled?

Jonah, when you say you were swallowed by that fish…
Do you mean that you felt that your life was in a bubble or did you really smell the fish guts?
When God said, Go to Nineve, was He standing there for real?
Or was it that little hunch I asked Abraham about?

Noah oh Noah, when you built your boat to hold all those animals…
How did you distinguish that voice as the one from God?
Was there a question in your head, thinking you went mad?
Or did you get the building plan, delivered on a golden note?

Joseph and Joseph, I know you guys dreamed your dreams, Paul, you had a vision and fell off your horse.
Peter, you are one of the lucky ones, you walked with Him and talked with Him. Still you messed up?
Thomas, you remind me of myself, but then you did see Him in the end.

Little voices in my head seem too small to be divine.
Bright shining lights are what I seem to look for.
But should I be happy with what I get?
Little signs and wonders in my life and all around me.
Stuff that seems to be just accidents en coincidences at a random continuity?

With big proof comes big faith? Or does it?
I need no proof of my own wickedness.
I need not have much faith to believe that.
Help me oh God, to have my faith grow.

So the smallest change in me can be the biggest proof.
That You are working in me.

And all the time, while I look for changing feelings and confirmation in my heart.
You worked out those issues in my life that were impossible to cure.

Forgive me for taking credit for Your work
And for trying to even take other things out of Your hands
That I say I want to give to You.

I will wait for the fruit of Your work in me.
Help me to stay in You, as You stay in me.
